เอทิล (Ethyl) แอลกอฮอล์เป็นแอลกอฮอล์ที่นำไปใช้เป็นส่วนผสมหลักในการทำเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ เช่นวิสกี้ เบียร์ ไวน์ และบรั่นดี เพราะสามารถละลายในน้ำและสารประกอบอินทรีอื่นๆ ได้ดี เป็นของเหลว ไม่มีสี ระเหยง่าย ไวไฟ

Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol is one type of alcohol that is found from the natural process of fermentation. It is a biological process that converts sugar from plants into cellular energy, producing ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide.

Ethyl Alcohol is a natural by-product. It is an intoxicating agent that is used as a main ingredient in producing many alcoholic beverages such as whisky, beer, wine and brandy. It is highly soluble in water and many organic liquids. It is a clear, colorless liquid, volatile and highly flammable.

Ethyl Alcohol is incredibly effective in killing microbes such as germs, bacteria, fungi and viruses. 75% concentrated solution of this natural grain alcohol, Ethanol can stop germs from spreading. It can kill microorganisms on the surfaces of products. Thus it becomes the main ingredient in the making of disinfect hand sanitizer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using hand sanitizer containing ethyl alcohol of more than 60% (by volume) in situation where water and soap are insufficient.

For the best result to kill bacteria (killing 99.9% of microbes), a concentration of 70%-80% of Ethyl alcohol has been found to be most effective in killing germs. We use alcohol to clean skin, too low or too high alcohol concentration is not the best in killing viruses. Using high percentage of ethanol alcohol, alcohol will evaporate too quickly and can eventually damage the skin cells.

At the right proportion, 75% Ethyl Alcohol (v/v) is an ideal for a potent disinfect solution. Perfect combination of water and alcohol will slowly go into the cell wall and kill germs effectively. If it’s a high percentage alcohol, it will thicken the protein inside the cell wall. The bacteria then get sealed. Alcohol stops penetrating, it cannot get into the cell wall any more, and the bacteria survive.
